FULL DAY CHARTER

Join Port Hughes Fishing Charters for a full day of fishing, adventure and exploring the beautiful waters of Spencer Gulf. Skipper Tom will take you out from Port Hughes at approximately 8:00 am for an action-packed 8-hour fishing charter, returning to shore around 4:00 pm.

Depending on the weather, sea conditions and where the fish are biting, we can travel up to 30 nautical miles into Spencer Gulf in search of some of the region’s best fishing grounds. Our main target is the highly sought-after King George Whiting, along with a variety of other local species. What we target on the day will depend on the season, fishing conditions and current fishing restrictions.

Our full-day charters are $300 per person and are designed to make your day on the water as easy and enjoyable as possible. We supply everything you need for a great day of fishing, including rods, tackle and bait, as well as ice, eskies, cold water and soft drinks onboard. All you need to bring is yourself, suitable clothing, and esky to take your catch home in and a sense of adventure.

We do offer filleting services as well but we need you to let us know in advance!

We take a minimum of 4 passengers and a maximum of 8, making our charters perfect for families, groups of friends and small fishing trips. Single anglers and smaller groups are also welcome to enquire, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you depending on availability.

Whether you’re an experienced angler chasing your next big catch or simply looking to spend a day on the water enjoying the fishing and scenery of Spencer Gulf, Port Hughes Fishing Charters is here to provide a relaxed, enjoyable and memorable day out.

SOUNDER TUTORIALS

Want to get more out of your sounder and actually understand what you’re looking at?

Our Sounder Tutorials are designed to give you practical, hands-on experience using your own boat and sounder, helping you build the confidence to find fish, identify productive areas and understand what your electronics are telling you.

The day is focused on teaching you how to properly set up and use your sounder, rather than simply showing you which buttons to press. We’ll work through the basic setup and settings before looking at how to read side imaging, down imaging and traditional sonar. Tom will show you how to identify different types of structure, locate bait and recognise fish on the screen, as well as how to mark productive locations and make the most of your GPS and chart functions.

We’ll also cover boat positioning, anchoring techniques and how Tom approaches a new area when he’s out fishing. The aim is to give you an understanding of not only what you’re seeing on the sounder, but how to use that information to make better decisions on the water.

As part of the day, Tom will also take you to a couple of his own productive fishing spots so you can see first-hand what he looks for when approaching an area and how he uses his sounder and GPS to find and stay on fish. You’ll also get to keep these spots for your own future fishing.

The goal is for you to finish the day feeling confident enough to head out on your own and actually understand what your sounder is telling you, rather than simply relying on someone else to find the fish for you.

The tutorial is conducted on your own boat using your own sounder, so you’ll be learning directly on the equipment you’ll be using when you go fishing by yourself. This makes the experience much more practical and relevant to your individual setup.

A full day on the water is $500, with the tutorial running for approximately 8 hours. Please note that bait and other fishing supplies cannot be provided as part of the tutorial, so you’ll need to bring your own bait. Tom is more than happy to recommend what he would personally take for the areas and species you’re targeting.

The support doesn’t have to stop when the day is finished. Tom is happy to help with questions afterwards, whether you’re having a tough day on the water, struggling to interpret something on your sounder or simply need some advice on how to approach a particular fishing situation.

The goal is simple — to help you understand your sounder, fish smarter and become more confident finding fish on your own.
